Our Culture

Our culture is grounded in responsibility, inclusion, and long-term impact. We believe business should contribute to something greater than itself. We aim to serve society, support our communities, and protect the environment while delivering meaningful results for agriculture, public health, forest health, and environmental health markets. Guided by a philosophy that balances purpose with performance, we invest in our people and dedicate our time and resources to initiatives that strengthen both our industry and the world around us. This commitment shapes how we lead, how we collaborate, and how we sustain future generations—together.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Being a responsible corporate citizen is ingrained in our company’s culture. We are inspired by our parent company Sumitomo Chemical’s spirit of Jiri-Rita, which emphasizes that our business should serve society as a whole, not just our own interests. Today, we’re committed to embedding the good of society into every facet of the business and making long-term commitments to positively influence society, the environment, and the community.

Our Commitment

SEDOL walk
Supporting our local communities

We support several local organizations, including the Lake County Forest Preserves, Lake County Haven, Northern Illinois Food Bank, Feed My Starving Children, United Way, local blood drives, and Bernie’s Book Bank. Additionally, we participate in an annual charity walk for the Special Education District of Lake County Foundation.

Promoting STEM

At Sumitomo Biorational, we host on-site educational tours and field trips for local students to inspire them to pursue a career in science.

Strengthening our Environment

Through our work with the Lake County Forest Preserves, we’ve helped collect a variety of different seeds that are used to restore native habitats.

Our Programs

Established 11 employee resource groups

Employee resource groups (ERGs) are voluntary groups of employees that come together based on shared identity or interests. The company has 11 ERGs that seek to foster an inclusive and collaborative environment for all employees.

Benefits of ERGs include development of future leaders in varying ERG roles, increased cultural awareness, employee engagement and opportunity to solve business challenges.

Proud MANRRS partner

Our partnership with MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences) helps advance important initiatives such as providing scholarships, internships, and leadership development to student members to support a strong and diverse pipeline for agriculture.

Leadership training program

We’re supporting our leaders by ensuring they have the necessary tools and skills to model inclusive leadership and bring out the fullest potential in everyone.

Guest speakers

We prioritize regularly hosting experts to conduct interactive forums with ERGs and company-wide to discuss key issues and lessons-learned.
